The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482) allows skilled foreign workers to work in Australia if they are sponsored by an approved employer. This visa helps Australian businesses fill labor shortages when qualified local workers are not available.

Key Features

Work Authorization: Allows employment in Australia under a sponsoring employer.
Three Streams:

  • Short-Term Stream: Valid for up to 2 years (or 4 years for select international agreements).
  • Medium-Term Stream: Valid for up to 4 years with a pathway to permanent residency.
  • Labour Agreement Stream: Available under special agreements between employers and the Australian Government.
    Family Inclusion: Applicants can include their spouse and children in the visa application.
    Permanent Residency Pathway: Medium-Term and Labour Agreement streams may lead to permanent residency.

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Must be sponsored by an approved Australian employer.
    • The job must be on the Skilled Occupation List (STSOL or MLTSSL, depending on the stream).
    • Must have at least two years of relevant work experience in the nominated occupation.
    • Must meet English language requirements (higher for Medium-Term Stream).
    • Must satisfy health and character requirements.                                                                                            Application Process
      1. Employer Sponsorship: The Australian employer must be approved as a sponsor.
      2. Job Nomination: The employer nominates the applicant for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List.
      3. Visa Application: The applicant submits their visa application with supporting documents.
      4. Processing & Approval: Once approved, the visa holder can live and work in Australia.
