Dolphins First Preseason Game Complete Did anyone else get goosebumps watching the introduction to the preseason game on Thursday? I was heading home from work Stephone Anthony Jersey , streaming the game on my phone, and may have been slightly screaming at times from excitement. Half of the year, like many of you, is spent glued to a TV every weekend watching football games. I live for the feeling of waking up on Sunday mornings (anxious and sometimes nervous but always hopeful) ready to either tailgate all morning with my second family (fellow Dolphins fans) in preparation to watch my Dolphins or prepping to watch them at my local Atlanta DolFan Club. Thursday night at 7pm I got my laptop set up, my drink ready, Duke (my pup) dressed and all set, and then took a deep breath and said, let’s do this. Now that it’s been a few days since I will share my thoughts on first preseason game. First of all, boy did it feel good to see number 17 out on the field. I would have been content if he just threw one complete pass, waved at the fans, and left the field. Lucky for us though , he stayed in for a few extra minutes and I’m glad he did. Tannehill came out and had a first successful drive including several completed passes. Yes, his last two passes were a bit off, but it’s fine. He hasn’t played in a game since December 11, 2016. I was impressed. Coach Gase was impressed and I believe Tannehill, himself, was content with his brief performance. Let’s not forget that pre-injury Tannehill was one of the most sacked quarterbacks in the league and he was untouched by the Buccaneers’ defense on Thursday night. The offensive line kept him protected. He didn’t get injured. He connected well with Stills on a couple passes. I call this a successful first preseason game for Tannehill. Repeat after me: It was the first preseason game. I feel like some folks need to be reminded after some of the reactions I saw on twitter/social medial following that game. Tannehill is gaining and showing more confidence and leadership as we inch closer to the season opener in September. I saw this brief video clip on Twitter over the weekend and wanted to add this for those who may not have seen it. It’s a clip from an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio. They are discussing Gase’s thoughts on Tannehill and here Gase says this about him, “He has a great feel for the offense. He’s trying to do the little little tiny things that most people don’t notice better than what he did when we first started.” I think we indeed are seeing a Tannehill 2.0. Last week I mentioned these games are really for all the rookies/newcomers to prove they want to earn a roster spot. Well, there were a few players who wanted to make sure they would make an impact. The 45 yard pass from Fales to Francis Owusu in the 3rd quarter was by far my favorite play from the game. Here, let’s watch it again because it was that good.Fales, thanks to help from the offensive line, had time to make that beautiful pass to a WR who had double coverage. Who saw that coming? I sure wasn’t expecting it. It’s plays like those that will have fans saying Womens Kenny Stills Jersey , “I don’t think Landry will be missed.” Looking forward to, hopefully, seeing more of him in the next game on Friday against Carolina. I’d also like to see a little more of rookie TE Gesicki. The guy is going to be a beast. He’s already been making an impact each week in training camp and on Thursday night he came so close to a one-handed touchdown. If that pass wasn’t overthrown, and he remained in-bounds, it would have been the play of the week. Fellow Phinsider contributer and Sutton summed it up best, “One of the prettiest preseason incompletions I’ve ever seen.” I completely agree. The other player who definitely shined last week was RB Senorise Perry. That guy took everyone by surprise on Thursday night. He’s putting in the work to prove he wants to be here this season and his performance last week, if it continues, should put him ahead. Honestly, as a fan watching the game at home last week, he made the game that much more enjoyable (which can be hard to do during preseason). It’s been a while since I have wanted to watch an entire preseason game start to finish. Thank you Perry! We Dolphins fans had rough go last season and have missed enjoyable games. Here are a few clips from his plays on Thursday tweeted out by Tom Like. I do know what I don’t want to see more of on Friday. Penalties. These pre-snap penalties need to stop. Ju’Wuan James I like you. I always have since they drafted you, but you got some calls on Thursday night. I open up Twitter today Kiko Alonso Jersey , on my flight home from Florida, and first thing I see is he had one today at camp. Joe Schad tweeted this morning that James was chewed out by a coach and made to run around the practice field. Maybe that old school coaching mentality will help?! Something has got to change, because penalties can cost us games.Who were some players you enjoyed watching? What do you expect to see this upcoming week against the Panthers in Carolina? I expect to see more of QB David Fales. I tweeted out during the game last week that we have our backup. He completed 8-of-11 passes for 115yds outplaying competing QB Brock Osweilier. Let’s see how he plays this next week, but I hope we see him on the roster this September. The Dolphins play their second game this Friday in Carolina at 7:30pm.Am I hoping for a win? Sure. But more importantly, I’m just hoping to avoid any more injuries and watch guys battling it out for that roster spot. Maybe Gesicki will make that one-handed touchdown catch this week. It could happen.Around SB Nation: What Other NFL Blogs Are Discussing AFC EAST:New England Patriots (via Pats Pulpit)Patriots release WR Malcolm Mitchell - Pats PulpitThe Patriots are moving on from their young receiver.New York Jets (via Gang Green Nation)Sam Darnold’s Maturity Key To Securing Jets Starting QB Role - Gang Green NationWhen Sam Darnold failed to show up at the start of training camp due to disagreements in off-set language in his contract, I read a few fan reactions stating that his chance at a starting spot...Buffalo Bills (via Buffalo Rumblings)Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy under pressure to perform with heavy workload at age 30 - Buffalo RumblingsHe’s been given a huge workload at an advanced age for an NFL running back, and there isn’t a fallback plan.AFC NORTH:Baltimore Ravens (via Baltimore Beatdown)Film Review: Hall of Fame Game part 1 - Baltimore BeatdownThe Baltimore Ravens defeated the Chicago Bears 17-16 in the Hall of Fame Game, and there were several standouts on both sides of the ball for Baltimore. The Los Angeles Rams are set to take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon in Week 8 and will be without key contributors on both sides of the ball. But they’re not the only team ailing. StatusGame StatusNo Malcolm Brown means more reps for rookie RB Darrell Henderson Jr. this weekend. He looked sharp at times last week Custom Greg Gaines Jersey , and he’ll have a prime opportunity to shine this Sunday against a Bengals’ defense that currently ranks dead last in yards per rushing attempt. Some positive news on the defensive side of the ball is that CB Troy Hill should be active. Ram’s Head Coach Sean McVay is giving Hill a “questionable” designation for Sunday, though it sounds as though he’ll be good to go. In the event that changes Greg Gaines Los Angeles Rams Jerseys , it’ll be Darious Williams — not rookie CB David Long Jr. — taking his spot per ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry. Anderson called himself a “perfect fit” in the Lions offense and hoped he finally had found a home after signing with his fifth team in the last year and a half.Alas Los Angeles Rams Jerseys Stitched , his stay in Detroit was not long. The Lions announced Tuesday that they have released Anderson, signaling Ty Johnson has won the backup job.He did not start either of the Lions games Greg Gaines Jersey nfl draft , played only 36 snaps and gained only 43 yards on 16 carries.Anderson had three 100-yard games in five games with the Rams last season, including the postseason Womens Greg Gaines Jersey , after signing off the street. But the Lions needed his roster spot after claiming Paul Perkins off waivers from the Giants. The Giants made Perkins inactive the first two games.Perkins, a fifth-round choice of the Giants in 2016 Authentic Greg Gaines Jersey , played 25 games with five starts his first two seasons in New York. He gained 546 rushing yards on 153 carries and caught 23 passes for 208 yards.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is far from the fastest player in Kansas City Travis Kelce Jersey , but he thinks he’ll benefit from the speed of the receivers around him.Kelce was asked what the Chiefs’ offense can do with the speed of wide receivers Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson and rookie Mecole Hardman, and he answered, “Anything we want to do.”“You name it. We’ve got 4.2, 4.3, maybe 4.1. I don’t know what Tyreek runs now. Who knows? We’ve got guys that can absolutely fly all over the field,” Kelce said, via ESPN. “Speed kills in this game. If you’ve got it, you’re in the advantage. We’re taking it up a level [from] years past. You can just tell from the coaches’ excitement to their attention to detail to how guys are reacting to their coaching. This team is going to be awesome. We’re going to have a lot of fun on the offensive side of the ball.”The Chiefs’ offense was the best in the NFL last year, and there’s optimism in Kansas City that they’ll stay on top this year. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The attorney for Tyreek Hill sent a letter to the NFL on Thursday disputing claims made by the wide receiver’s fiancee of child abuse Tyreek Hill Jersey , offering a point-by-point response to a secret recording of them that was made public last week.In the four-page letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, attorney N. Trey Pettlon also said that Hill was willing to cooperate with the league’s investigation.“(Hill) categorically denies he has ever ‘punched’ his son in the chest or anywhere on his body, or otherwise touched him in the chest in a mean-spirited manner,” Pettlon wrote, adding that the audio was recorded while Hill and his fiancee, Crystal Espinal, were considering separation. The NFL has declined to comment on the case. The Chiefs also have declined additional comment. The Chiefs suspended Hill indefinitely last Thursday, shortly after KCTV aired the recording in which the couple discusses injuries to their 3-year-old son. The following day, prosecutors in Johnson County, Kansas, reopened an investigation of Hill that had been closed for just 48 hours.During the audio Darwin Thompson Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , Espinal asks why the boy “kept saying, ‘Daddy punches me,’ which you do when he starts crying. What do you do? You make him open up his arms and you punch him in the chest.”Pettlon wrote there have been times that Hill has “tapped his son gently” and told him to “Man up, buddy,” or “Don’t cry, my man.” Pettlon also said that Hill has always done so in a “calm voice” and that he has never punched or used his fist as a form of punishment.“The only thing Tyreek does with his son that is close to what she is describing as ‘punching’ is when they are playing,” Pettlon wrote.Espinal also claims during the recording, made as the couple were walking through a Dubai airport, that Hill’s son is “terrified” of him. Hill responds, “You should be terrified of me, too, bitch.”“Instead of denying that his son was terrified of him a second time Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys 2019 , something that has bothered him a great deal, he became frustrated and said she should be terrified, too,” Pettlon wrote. “That comment is inexcusable, of course, and he wouldn’t ask me to defend that here. That comment is also inconsistent with Tyreek’s conversations with Ms. Espinal over the past several months.”Pettlon said a forensic examiner has looked through extensive text messages between the couple and that never once does Hill call Espinal a derogatory name.In one exchange, according to Pettlon’s letter, Hill tells Espinal after their trip to Dubai: “Crystal you know I didn’t cause any bruising or harm to (our son) but for some reason I still may be charged.” Espinal replies: “I know you didn’t. I did. I hurt (our son). I’m the one that did it. I was hurt and mad you so I blamed you for everything.”Pettlon also said that Hill is currently engaged in both family and individual counseling, “and he is committed to improving his life and becoming the best parent he can be.”The Chiefs are in the midst of voluntary offseason workouts, and Hill has already been barred from attending, which is one reason the NFL has not placed him on the commissioner’s exempt list.Hill was drafted by the Chiefs despite a domestic abuse case in which he attacked Espinal while he was a student at Oklahoma State. Hill was kicked off the team there and wound up at West Alabama, and the Chiefs said at the time of the draft that he was undergoing counseling. That background Darwin Thompson Jersey nfl draft , combined with the audio revealed hours before the start of last week’s NFL draft, generated a substantial outcry that Hill should be released by the Chiefs. Some have even said that Hill, one of the league’s best wide receivers, should never play in the NFL again.Pettlon said that Hill and Espinal continue to cooperate with investigators, and that District Attorney Steve Howe’s office has reviewed the audio tape and has yet to prosecute either party.“It should be clear by now that there is a lot of information, including other compelling evidence that points to Tyreek’s innocence, that is not a matter of public record and cannot be addressed in this letter,” Pettlon said. “All indications are that the criminal investigation is over and Tyreek still maintains his innocence.”

SANTA CLARA Antonio Brown Jersey White , Calif. (AP) — Jon Gruden knows he sometimes went over the top in his praise of quarterbacks in his old job as an analyst at ESPN.It seemed like any time a quarterback went to “Gruden’s QB Camp” or was picked in the draft, Gruden was always full of compliments. The praise for Kansas City’s second-year star Patrick Mahomes is on an even different level.“His overall skill set is sickening. It really is,” Gruden said. “He’s double-jointed. He can throw the ball from any platform possible. Running to his left, fading backward. He can get out of trouble. I compliment everybody, I’ve been accused of that, but this guy has off-the-chart arm talent. Skill level is unbelievable.“He has a playing style that reminds me of (Brett) Favre. He’s a young Favre. I think that’s why Andy Reid went and got him. He won’t quit on any play. He makes a lot of plays when there’s nothing there. I don’t have time to talk about him anymore.”Gruden now must devise a plan to slow Mahomes when his Oakland Raiders (2-9) host the Chiefs (9-2) on Sunday in what appears to be a major mismatch.Led by Mahomes’ 37 touchdown passes — the third most ever through 11 games — the Chiefs have been a nearly unstoppable force on offense. Coach Andy Reid’s squad ranks second in the NFL with 404 points and is on pace to become the first team since at least 1960 to average more than 7.0 yards per play. But everything hasn’t been perfect for Mahomes, who committed five turnovers in Kansas City’s last game, a 54-51 loss to the Rams on Nov. 19.“Every experience, bad or good, you have to learn from,” Mahomes said. “You take the positives. We had a lot of successful plays and successful things happen in that game, but you have to find ways to win them in the end.”Here are some other things to watch:EB’S BACK Bo Jackson Jersey White , MAYBEChiefs safety Eric Berry returned to the practice field this week for the first time since the early weeks of training camp, when he became sidelined by a heel injury. But considering Berry has not played at all since August, it is unlikely he will be available for Kansas City’s trip to Oakland.“It’s a great thing to see him back healthy,” Reid said. “This is killing him to watch. He loves to play. It tears him up not to be out there, but at the same time we have to do it smart.”FAST START, SLOW FINISHOne thing the Raiders have done well this year is start games fast. Their 34 points on the opening drive rank fifth best in the NFL this season. What’s happened after that has been the problem. Oakland has the third-worst offense the rest of the game, averaging just 1.32 points per drive after that.STREAKING JONESChiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones was the AFC’s defensive player of the month, another line to a resume that could land him a big contract extension this offseason. Jones has nine sacks this season, including at least one each of the past seven weeks. He had a pair of sacks against the Cardinals and the Rams prior to the bye week, and he had a season-high three tackles for loss in Los Angeles.DANGEROUS RETURNSOakland was burned last week by a poorly placed punt by rookie Johnny Townsend that led to a 70-yard touchdown return by Baltimore’s Cyrus Jones. Townsend, a fifth-round pick, has struggled this year , ranking 30th out of 32 qualifying punters in net average (37.7 yards), last in gross average (43.5 yards), and last in percentage of punts downed inside the 20-yard line (18.4 percent). That could be an issue against Tyreek Hill, who leads the NFL with four punt return TDs since entering the league in 2016.“We have to do a better job than we did last week,” Gruden said. “The one punt return we’ve given up, we didn’t hit our landmark. We gave them a low hanging punt that gave him a two-way go, and that’s hard to defend. If we do that against this guy, we’ll have very little chance to win this game. This guy is really unique. Tyreek Hill, he’s a unique skill set. You have to limit his opportunities every way you can.”REUNION WEEKThe relationship between Gruden and Reid goes back decades to when they spent three years together as offensive assistants on Mike Holmgren’s staff in Green Bay from 1992-94. That’s where the two really started to build the foundation of the offenses they’d eventually run for years as successful head coaches in the NFL.“We were both young and we were able to learn a ton from a great head coach,” Reid recalled. “Jon and I spent a lot of time together, along with Steve Mariucci, we were the youngest guys on the staff. We all kind of bonded and did our thing. We did a lot of the go-fer work Derek Carr Jersey White , which we loved. Great learning experience and great foundation to build on.” Sometimes you get the feeling these early mock drafts are designed to give the draft ‘guru’ someplace to go. Like those jobs where they say they give you a low eval score so each new eval the score goes up. That’s how the first mock draft from Mel Kiper feels. Like if he said what he really thinks the Raiders will do, he’d lose all the sweet page views when nothing changed with each version. The Raiders were so bad at pass rushing there was more of a distance between them and the nextworst teams (17) than actual sacks recorded by the team that season (13) and somehow Mel Kiper has them making three first round picks without taking a pass rusher. Stunning development. Here are his interesting first round picks for the Raiders which are sure to change several times before the draft.4. Greedy Williams, CB, LSU24. Marquise Brown, WR, Oklahoma27. Irv Smith Jr., TE, AlabamaNotes: So, he has them starting at arguably their strongest position and finishing at the position he himself just noted had their number one receiver. Ok, Mel. We’ll see.Follow @LeviDamien

This is now. Since I wrote that, Scharping became a second round selection of the Houston Texans. Typically, I would have waited to see Scharping play in a season or two, decide if he’s good or bad Greg Mancz Jersey White , and say, “Yes, I was right” or “Team ‘X’ taught him how to do ________,” or “I was completely wrong” and then go back and see why. Never would I be revisiting something this early again. There’s too much life out there. The sun feels too good. But since the Texans selected him in the second round, so I felt it would be worth my time to go back and take a look at him again. After revisiting Scharping, I feel better about the pick than I originally did. His size is a problem for defenders. Even if he catches defenders with his body instead of his hands, his anchor should be good enough to swallow up most defenders.via GfycatIn the run game, Scharping is better than I thought he was. It’s hard watching college video and seeing so many blocks that have zero resemblance to the pro game. So many of Scharping’s run blocks were backside shielding, not true backside double teams, or one-on-one blocks with zero effect on the play itself. He can block down pretty well to move the defensive tackle inside and off the guard. He can reach the defensive end. These are good things. Scharping does have issued with vertical movement Joel Heath Jersey , though. He should demolish smaller defensive ends off the ball with his size. But he catches too much and needs to explode once contact is made. The red wire is snipped once the alarm clock numbers hit 0:01. Ahhh, disaster was so close.via GfycatThe key for Scharping is that he absolutely has to fix his hands and pass set. He falls off run blocks way too often and again, he doesn’t create enough movement, which is partly due to his hands. There isn’t enough of an impact when he makes contact. In the pass game, this shortcoming gives defenders second and third opportunities to get after the quarterback. Scharping turns way too often when pass protecting. Instead of an angular kick-slide, he’s turning and inviting the wrong one in, opening the door for spins and inside moves. Here he eventually turns because he delays contact for too long, even after a decent pass set. Pass blocking can be aggressive. Linemen become passive in pass protection when the hands are meek.via Gfycat via GfycatScharping was fortunate to have the left guard he had next to him. That left guard was able to help him against inside moves and seal off the counters that took advantage of all the turning and opening. A proper pass set should correct these problems. Scharping has shown he has the feet to meet the defender at the point of attack, even if he doesn’t show the hands to end the pass rush right then and right there. Occasionally, he does kick-slide correctly; when he does D.J. Reader Jersey White , it looks pretty, fluid, and natural.via GfycatWhen he kick-slides and has the hands properly utilized, the body is too strong for the defender to recover. Scharping becomes insurmountable.via GfycatYou can name any Week One offensive line combination for the Texans in 2019 and I would believe it. Matt Kalil-Senio Kelemete-Greg Mancz-Zach Fulton-Tytus Howard?Sure. Julien Davenport-Martinas Rankin-Nick Martin-Tytus Howard-Max Scharping?Let’s do it. There isn’t an unthinkable permutation. Yet when it comes to Scharping, I assume he’ll sit and watch unless things become so disastrous that he’s forced out there like Martinas Rankin was at left tackle in 2018. Hand correction for offensive linemen is like accuracy for quarterbacks. It rarely gets better, and if it does, it’s a long-term project. Scharping’s pass set is also going to take time to correct. From a future perspective, I like the pick more than I did on Saturday. From a 2019 perspective, I’m not expecting much.

DAVIE Durham Smythe Jersey , Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins 14th-year veteran John Denney first saw his future career path in eighth grade, when he bent over and looked between his legs. His coach was putting together a place-kicking team at practice, and Denney volunteered to try out as a long snapper.“Whoever was interested lined up and started snapping the ball at a tire hanging from the uprights,” Denney said. “Beginner’s luck, I hit the chain holding the tire and it knocked the tire off the chain. At that age, that got everybody in a frenzy.”Those cheers might still be the loudest Denney ever received for doing his job. All long snappers toil in anonymity — unless they make a mistake, and Denney doesn’t. That’s why he has been with the Dolphins since 2005, four years longer than any other active player. At 39 he’s among the oldest players in the NFL.“It has been a ride, that’s for sure,” Denney said following a recent practice. “I would never guess 14 years later I would still be on this field in the same place. I won the lottery.”Is the hardest part of the job the drudgery of training camp in steamy South Florida?“For everybody else, yeah,” Denney said with a chuckle. “My position is different.”That’s for sure. Long snappers spend much of practice off to the side with the place-kickers and punters, often watching and chatting. It’s not bad duty for $1 million a year, which is Denney’s salary this season. But as with any specialist Jerome Baker Jersey , there’s pressure. Denney is expected to be nearly 100 percent accurate, and has been. When asked to tabulate the misfires, Dolphins special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi paused to search his memory.“In my nine seasons with him, I think we had confusion once on a field goal,” Rizzi said Tuesday. “Brandon Fields (the holder) wasn’t looking, and John hit him in the face mask.“To have to sit here and think about it is a credit to him.”And while the 6-foot-5, 242-pound Denney doesn’t log as many snaps as an every-down player, he does run downfield under punts, and wins raves for staying in shape.“The guy is in unbelievable physical condition,” coach Adam Gase said. “He’s the ultimate pro.”Denney doesn’t look his age, but he’ll turn 40 in December.“Wow. I didn’t know he was going to be 40,” said running back Frank Gore, who’s a mere 35. “He does work hard, though. During the offseason he works very Mike Gesicki Jersey , very hard.”That includes snapping drills. Sometimes Denney recruits his 11- and 13-year-old sons to help, and hikes in the backyard.Like everything else, practice makes perfect.“If I give you a ball right now and you look between your legs and everything is upside down, it’s not natural,” Denney said. “It’s a matter of working at it to a point it becomes natural.”Denney played linebacker and offensive line in high school in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was a three-year starter at defensive end for Brigham Young. All the while he groomed his skills as a long snapper, which is how he made the Dolphins’ roster after going undrafted. He played in every game as a rookie, and each year since he has played in all 16 games — 208 in total. That’s by far a team record for consecutive games, and tied for third among active NFL players. The streak will likely grow, although Denney has nominal competition in training camp from undrafted rookie Lucas Gravelle. It’s one of the few times the team has brought in another long snapper to compete with Denney, but he said he always feels like he’s fighting for his job.“Regardless of whether there is another body in camp, they have a list on a board somewhere with the next five best long snappers available,” he said. “It’s not like you’re ever in the clear.”That accurately describes life in the NFL. As usual Cameron Wake Jersey , Denney is right on target. Brian Hoyer bounced around the NFL for more than a decade. He's suited up for seven different franchises, made starts with five different teams and mastered the art of excelling as a longtime backup quarterback. The job requires picking up new offenses quickly — sometimes even without practice. Now the 34-year-old veteran is preparing to make his 38th career start on Sunday, this time for the Indianapolis Colts, he's putting all those lessons to work one more time."For me it's like anything, you always take one offense you know and you revert to that," Hoyer said Wednesday, fully aware he may still be coming off the bench against the Miami Dolphins. "You say 'this play here, we call it a different word but it's the same play.' It's kind of like learning a language, like Italian and Spanish are pretty similar so you can sort of figure it out."Hoyer's ability to interpret terminology on the fly is a big reason he's thrived in this role for 11 NFL seasons.Last weekend was a perfect example of what makes Hoyer so valuable.Hoyer was pressed into service when Jacoby Brissett went down with an injured left knee. He'd taken almost no practice snaps with the Colts' starters since signing the team in early September and had limited knowledge of the Colts' playbook.Hoyer's first pass went for an 11-yard touchdown to Jack Doyle. And though Hoyer later threw an interception that was returned 96 yards for a score , he also moved the Colts into position for the go-ahead field goal with 1:14 left at Pittsburgh only to watch Adam Vinatieri shank the 43-yarder wide left. The final numbers were solid: 17 of 26, 168 yards, three touchdowns and one interception with a rating of 105.9. But the overall performance was better than anyone could have anticipated given the circumstances."It was awesome to see him play. Some of the things that he did — like I said Sunday — I knew I wouldn't have done, but he made a lot of great throws," Brissett said. "He did a good job of taking command. So yeah Jason Taylor Jersey , I thought he did pretty well."Coach Frank Reich gave Hoyer rave reviews, too.Indy (5-3) may need Hoyer to replicate that performance this weekend, too.Brissett was limited in practice Wednesday with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, giving Hoyer his first significant practice snaps. No decision has yet been made about whether to start Brissett or Hoyer, who was released by New England at the end of the preseason."We're going to rely on him (Brissett), we're going to rely on the doctors, we're all going to have to get together on it," Reich said. "We don't want to lose him for the long haul by trying to be a hero. But Jacoby is old school. This guy is as tough as they come and we've got to do the right thing for him and our team."Clearly, Hoyer learned some valuable lessons playing behind Tom Brady and for Bill Belichick all those years in New England. He studies and works like the starter every week. He'll provide the Colts' coaches with a list of what he likes and what he's comfortable with in the game plan. He'll be ready to perform on a moment's notice and he expects to play well enough to win if the call comes. And if he does need help sorting things out against the Dolphins (1-7), Brissett will be right there to help."I think the first ball I ever threw to Zach Pascal was a 17-yarder on the sideline Sunday," Hoyer said. "But having Jacoby there is great because even though I've played longer than him, I'm learning about this offense from him."

Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips has been around the NFL for a long time Deacon Jones Jersey , so it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that he likes players who have been through the grind for a while. The Rams added a pair of them to Phillips’ defense this offseason by signing safety Eric Weddle and linebacker Clay Matthews. Phillips likes what the years of seasoning the two players bring with them to their new team.“Matthews and Weddle both give us a veteran influence coming in, and are both still really athletic and can play their position well, but it gives you a lot of experience,” Phillips said, via the team’s website. “Weddle especially, I think in the secondary gives you a lot of things that you can do as far as changes and working against our offense Eric Dickerson Jersey , which gives you a lot of problems.”The Rams offense got most of the team’s headlines during the 2018 season, but a boost from the offseason additions to the defense could change the storylines for 2019. The Los Angeles Rams finally leave the state of California and head to face a division rival in the Seattle Seahawks in week five.In what seems like a heavily favored game for the Rams, they’ll look to remain unbeaten (5-0) and grab a massive lead in the division.Let’s take a look at some of the matchups to watch:CB Nickell Robey-Coleman vs WR Doug BaldwinEven though Baldwin has missed some time this season, he remains the Seahawks’ most dangerous weapon in the passing game (even with the re-emergence of Tyler Lockett). Baldwin is a route-running extraordinaire. Lining up in the slot opposite will be Nickell Robey-Coleman who is coincidentally one of the leagues best nickel cornerbacks. This matchup will be fun to watch though it will ultimately come down to how long Russell Wilson has to throw.LT Andrew Whitworth vs DE Frank ClarkFrank Clark is a stud at the defensive end spot for the Seahawks as he likely poses the biggest threat to the Rams’ passing game. Ironically, Andrew Whitworth might be the best left tackle in football and he’ll have the honors of blocking Clark. Whitworth has played beyond an elite level at this point, so he is expected to absolutely dominate this matchup. Even if that happens Marshall Faulk Jersey , don’t be surprised if Clark is able to notch as a sack because he’s just so quick.QB Jared Goff vs CB Shaquill GriffinEntering his third season in the NFL, Goff was expected to take another step forward in his development. Not only did he do that, but he’s in the running (and might be the favorite) for the MVP award as of today. Goff has never really killed the Seahawks as last year he had 400 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions playing them twice. The Rams are a different team with an even more dangerous offense, so I expect the numbers to improve - vastly. Griffin is the best secondary player on the Seahawks, but look for that secondary to struggle because they simply aren’t in the same class as the Rams’ weapons.RB Todd Gurley vs MLB Bobby WagnerGurley’s two games vs the Seahawks were total opposites, though it seems that could be said for every aspect from the first showdown of the Rams versus the Seahawks and the second. Gurley only had 43 rushing yards in the first game averaging 3.1 yards a pop. He was also generally invisible in the passing game and had a fumble (that was nearly a touchdown). The second game he was unleashed accumulating 180 total yards and four tochdowns in three quarters. Wagner is likely the leagues best linebacker at this point so Gurley will have his hands full. Look for the Rams to establish the run early and often.DT Aaron Donald vs QB Russell WilsonAs we continue on this theme Nolan Cromwell Jersey , Donald notched zero sacks in the first showdown with the Seahawks. The second game? Well, he had three sacks with the potential for notching a few more. Donald has sacked Wilson more than any other quarterback in his career so this is always a game to keep your eyes on #99. On the other side, Wilson is a highly talented and smart QB with incredible mobility. Not only that, but he’s very smart with defenders bearing down on him and can generally avoid taking unnecessary sacks. The Seahawks’ offensive line is a major weak spot, so expect Donald to have a field day even if it doesn’t necessarily translate to the stat sheet.K Cairo Santos vs himselfRecently, the Rams chose to cut Sam Ficken and replace him with a more appropriate option in Cairo Santos. In his career Kurt Warner Jersey , Santos has connected on 84% of his field goals and 96% of his extra points. Let’s see if he can calm his nerves and put on a good show for whichever teams may need a kicker in the future weeks.

Drew Brees led the NFL with a 115.7 passer rating. Ben Roethlisberger led in passing yards with 5 Rashad Fenton Jersey Womens ,129. Ezekiel Elliott led in rushing yards with 1,434. Saquon Barkley led in yards from scrimmage with 2,028. Julio Jones led with 1,677 receiving yards. But no one did enough to supplant Patrick Mahomes for offensive player of the year. He received 30 votes to 16 for Brees, two for DeAndre Hopkins and two for Todd Gurley.Mahomes is expected to win the MVP award later tonight at NFL Honors.Five of the past seven offensive player of the year winners also doubled as the MVP award winner, with Matt Ryan winning both in 2016, Cam Newton in 2015, Peyton Manning in 2013 and Adrian Peterson in 2012.Mahomes, 23, passed for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns in his first full season as a starter, directing the Chiefs to a 12-4 regular-season record. He becomes the second player in team history to win offensive player of the year. Running back Priest Holmes won the award in 2002. Duke Johnson wore a backpack on Monday that seemed symbolic. The Browns finally asked him to carry a larger load.Of the handful of positives to emerge from Sunday's 37-21 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs Rashad Fenton Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , capping another stormy week of change and uncertainty in Cleveland, Johnson's two-touchdown performance was at the top of the list. After being overlooked 鈥?some would argue misused 鈥?for much of the season, Johnson was the primary focus of the Browns' offensive game plan. He finished with nine catches for 78 yards, added one rush for eight and drew extra attention from Kansas City's defense, which allowed his teammates to make plays.Johnson was hesitant to say it, but Cleveland's change at offensive coordinator, with running backs coach Freddie Kitchens replacing the fired Todd Haley, made a difference."Um," Johnson said sheepishly when asked if the Kitchens-for-Haley swap was the reason for his rise in production. "I guess you could look at it that way. Again, it's the same plays we've been calling, the same offense. There's just certain things that coach Kitchens likes better than coach Haley did."Before Sunday, Johnson's season-high was four catches and there were times when he wasn't on the field at all. What made that even more perplexing was that Johnson led the Browns (2-6-1) with 74 catches for 693 yards last season and developed into one of the NFL's best dual-threat backs. But with Haley concerned about getting touches for running backs Nick Chubb and Carlos Hyde Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys Stitched , who was recently traded to Jacksonville, Johnson became the odd-man out.A proven playmaker not getting a chance to make plays.Johnson was targeted by rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield against the Chiefs, and he hopes to get even more opportunities as the season progresses."I think it is possible," Johnson said. "Just going out there and showing what I'm capable of doing, especially showing the reason why I'm here. It was a great showing for myself, but not so much for the team and we're about team here. We should have gotten the win, that's most important."Following his first game since being chosen Hue Jackson's interim replacement, defensive coordinator/head coach Gregg Williams said Johnson's breakout was caused by a combination of things, including Kitchens and Mayfield working together for the first time."Freddie did a good job and Baker, too," Williams said. "Baker's understanding of that from the read process 鈥?when a play is called as a quarterback, you don't automatically know it is going to go to that person. There is a read definition that takes you to that person Rashad Fenton Jersey nfl draft , but from Baker and Freddie, they did a good job with that."It was good to see that with Duke. Just like what we have talked about with other people, I think he can do more and he will. He had a good fire about him, and he will continue to improve too. We need him to improve."Getting Johnson more involved didn't result in a win for the Browns, but it was a small step toward improvement.Cleveland matched a season-low with only four penalties, and Williams, who decided early on he was going to be aggressive, liked that his offense converted three times on fourth down. The Browns couldn't keep up with Kansas City's high-speed, high-scoring offense, but Johnson was impressed with the team's character in the aftermath of Jackson and Haley's firings."I never saw them blink," he said. "One, two Womens Rashad Fenton Jersey , scores down or whatever, we were always in a position to continue to fight. I never saw them blink. That is good. That is what we are supposed to do as professionals. Young team, old team, I do not care 鈥?that was good. There was a lot of positive that way. Defensively, we have to play better."Another bright spot was left tackle Greg Robinson. The 2014 No. 2 overall pick made his first start for Cleveland filling in for Desmond Harrison, who was out with an unspecified illness. Robinson not only protected Mayfield's blind side, but handled all his other duties."He played well, didn't he?" said Williams, who was on the Rams' staff when they selected Williams. "I've seen him develop as a young guy. I've seen him have his battles, ups and downs, and it's been good."Following the game, Mayfield singled out Robinson Authentic Rashad Fenton Jersey , who was grateful for the QB's praise."It felt good to just get out there with the boys, taking it to the game field rather than just practicing," said Robinson, signed by the Browns in June. "It was encouraging and I'm really happy that he spoke well about me."NOTES: Williams did not have updates on rookie CB Denzel Ward (hip), CB E.J. Gaines (concussion) or LB Christian Kirksey (hamstring), all injured Sunday. Williams reiterated his decision to sit DB Damarious Randall (groin) was so he can be healthy for multiple games and not just one.

CINCINNATI (AP)While Andy Dalton was throwing deep passes to A.J. Green and the rest of the Bengals receivers on Friday Jarrett Stidham NFL Jersey , Tyler Eifert was on a side field running sprints in shorts and a cut-off shirt. He ran one sprint, then another. Next were some agility drills. The tight end did everything except catch one of Dalton’s spirals. The Bengals’ most oft-injured player hopes that part comes soon. The Bengals have gambled that Eifert can stay healthy for a full season and get the NFL’s worst offense moving again. He played only two games last season before hurting his back again, prompting another medical procedure. Eifert was a free agent after the season, and the Bengals decided to keep him with an incentive-laden, one-year deal .Cincinnati’s offense finished last in the league in yards. A healthy Eifert could help change that.”I can’t predict the future on that one, but I can testify to the fact that he made a difference when he was up and running for us,” director of player personnel Duke Tobin said. ”We know what he can do if he can get back to that level.”Eifert is one of Dalton’s favorite targets. He caught 13 touchdown passes in 2015, the most by a tight end in Bengals history. That was the last time the Bengals made the playoffs. A concussion, a dislocated elbow, a torn ankle ligament and two back injuries have limited him to 24 games over the last four years.Although the Bengals have encouraging reports on Eifert’s back, they’ve decided to go slow with him at the start of camp. He hasn’t been cleared to practice even though he feels he’s ready, forcing him to work out on a side field the first two days.”When I came back, I thought I’d go right into practice,” Eifert said. ”Everyone knows all the surgeries I’ve had. We’re just being smart about it.”The Bengals are trying to keep him healthy and get him in shape for the opener at Indianapolis on Sept. 9. He said there’s been no discussion about how much he might play in the preseason.”I definitely need to get back out there, get some plays full-speed,” Eifert said. ”It’s been a while.”Eifert hurt his back during the second game last season, a 13-9 loss to Houston. Backups Tyler Kroft and C.J. Uzomah combined for 52 catches and eight touchdowns during the season.Eifert’s greatest asset is his ability to make catches in tight coverage, the main reason he became Dalton’s favorite target near the goal line. The tight end has made one change in the offseason, dropping at least 10 pounds for quickness.”I feel a lot better,” he said. ”Everyone is always saying you’re got to block and hang in there in the trenches, you’ve got to put on weight, but that’s (wrong).”ON THE SIDE: Linebacker Vontaze Burfict also worked out on the side Friday for the second straight day. He hasn’t been cleared to practice. Burfict is suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.ROSS AGAIN: Second-year receiver John Ross made his second impressive catch of camp on a long throw Jarrett Stidham NFL Draft , drawing applause from the crowd of 1,050. Ross missed most of his rookie season with shoulder injuries.OUCH: Tony McRae fell while trying to break up a pass, and receiver Cody Core landed on the back of the cornerback’s right leg. McRae limped to a cart and was taken off for an exam.— NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — We learned during the 2018 season that offense is beloved by NFL teams (and fans). We also learned that defense, as performed by the Patriots in the Super Bowl, carries away the Lombardi Trophy. This year’s draft, which begins Thursday night, is stocked with defenders who can be difference-makers. Many of them play up front and will go very high in the proceedings. Here’s one view of the first round, presuming no trades — something extremely unlikely.1. Arizona — You don’t hire a new coach out of college who plays a specific system and then not give him what he considers the perfect player to run that scheme. So Kliff Kingsbury gets …KYLER MURRAY, QB, OKLAHOMA2. San Francisco — Pedigree means plenty with this pick, even if the Niners‘ choice missed much of 2018 while injured. Yet another D-line early pick for San Francisco.NICK BOSA, DE, OHIO STATE3.New York Jets — The Jets easily could trade out of this spot. Staying put, they’ll put into their new uniforms a dynamic guy for the trenches.QUINNEN WILLIAMS, DL, ALABAMA4.Oakland — With the first of three picks in the opening round as the rebuild begins in earnest, the Raiders fill the chasm created by their trading of Khalil Mack last summer.JOSH ALLEN, LB, KENTUCKY5.Tampa Bay — Lots of holes here for Bruce Arians to get filled, and he’s an offensive-first guy. Still, there are too many studs on the other side of the ball to pass on one of them.DEVIN WHITE Jarrett Stidham Buffalo Bills Jersey , LB, LSU6.New York Giants — Around the Big Apple, fans are salivating about the Giants taking Eli Manning’s successor at quarterback in this spot. Sorry, New Yorkers, you’ll have to wait. Defense first, if that sounds familiar in this draft.MONTEZ SWEAT, LB-DE, MISSISSIPPI STATE7.Jacksonville — Tom Coughlin stays in-state for a protector for his new QB, Nick Foles.JAWAAN TAYLOR, OT, FLORIDA8. Detroit — Another team staying within state boundaries for its choice. Matt Patricia’s strength is defense and he adds to the building process with …RASHAN GARY, DL, MICHIGAN9.Buffalo — Did we mention this is a defense-first draft?ED OLIVER, DL, HOUSTON10. Denver — Big decision time for John Elway, who loves drafting quarterbacks and is staring at one who threw for 50 TDs last year. But Elway also traded for Joe Flacco, who isn’t on his last legs. So …BRIAN BURNS, LB-DE, FLORIDA STATE11. Cincinnati — Now the decision on that QB belongs to Cincinnati, which has seen attendance drop as the team flounders. Another in-state pick, this one a gamble and not for an immediate need.DWAYNE HASKINS, QB Color Rush Byron Cowart Jersey , OHIO STATE12. Green Bay — Replace (sort of) LB Clay Matthews or replace (sort of) WR Randall Cobb or help (sort of) TE Jimmy Graham? This is high for a tight end, but there are two worthy of first-round status.T.J. HOCKENSON, TE, IOWA13. Miami — Las Vegas odds-makers see the Dolphins as the worst team in 2019. If they are right, how much does it matter which player they choose here?CLELIN FERRELL, DE, CLEMSON14. Atlanta — Although help up front is a most crunching need, the Falcons see the top cornerback in this crop on the board and grab him.GREEDY WILLIAMS, CB, LSU15. Washington — If he wasn’t a quarterback, he wouldn’t have cracked the top half of the first round — or maybe gone in the entire opening round. But he is a QB, so …DANIEL JONES, QB, DUKE16. Carolina — Another team that is looking for a developmental passer. With several likely available later on, the Panthers grab something more pressing.JONAH WILLIAMS, OT, ALABAMA17. New York Giants (from Cleveland) — CRUSHED! New York figured it could get Jones here, and considering he’s been coached by the same guy who handled Eli and Peyton Manning in college, he was a perfect fit. Sorry, Big Blue.DEVIN BUSH, LB, MICHIGAN18. Minnesota — If they go by need Youth Byron Cowart Jersey , the Vikings have their choice of blockers to fill a major void.CODY FORD, OL, OKLAHOMA19. Tennessee — The Titans’ temptation could be taking a tight end or wideout. They also could use help on both lines. Time to boost the excitement quotient.D.K. METCALF, WR, MISSISSIPPI20. Pittsburgh — An offseason of turmoil and sea change has placed added emphasis and attention on this pick. Strange to see Pittsburgh with so many holes.BYRON MURPHY, CB, WASHINGTON21. Seattle — Few teams have the wise front offices and coaching staff that can retool and still be successful. That success continues with …DEXTER LAWRENCE, DT, CLEMSON22. Baltimore — Metcalf would have been a nice fit here, but he’s in Music City. The Ravens could go defense, but the offensive line needs bolstering.ANDRE DILLARD, OL, WASHINGTON STATE23. Houston — Dillard was in their sights, and the Texans‘ blocking needs fortifying. Sticking with that approach, they get …DALTON RISNER, OT, KANSAS STATE24. Oakland (from Chicago)— Jon Gruden has made it clear how much he adores tight ends who can block and catch the ball. He’ll get one.NOAH FANT, TE, IOWA25. Philadelphia — Eagles boss Howie Roseman rubs his eyes in disbelief and takes little time to select a college champion he couldn’t imagine would fall to Philly.CHRISTIAN WILKINS, DL, CLEMSON26. Indianapolis — Never doubt GM Chris Ballard’s selections after pulling off one of the great drafts of recent years in 2018. He begins this one with …DEANDRE BAKER, CB Womens Byron Cowart Jersey , GEORGIA27. Oakland (from Dallas) — Gruden would have loved Baker in his secondary. He is tempted to stick with that position, then goes for the other backfield and a do-everything RB.JOSH JACOBS, RB, ALABAMA28. Los Angeles Chargers — This comes down to if the Chargers want to wait for DT Jeffery Simmons to recover from a major knee injury, or play it safer.JEFFERY SIMMONS, DT, MISSISSIPPI STATE29. Seattle — Defense is a must, as we saw in the AFC championship game. The Seahawks dealt front-line stud Frank Clark to KC for this spot.NASIR ADDERLEY, CB, DELAWARE30. Green Bay (from New Orleans) — After getting help for Aaron Rodgers earlier, the Packers try to fill a hole in their secondary yet again.JUSTIN LAYNE, CB, MICHIGAN STATE31. Los Angeles Rams — The most talented roster in the league adds to it up front.GARRETT BRADBURY, OL North Carolina State.32. New England — Predicting anything about the Patriots on draft day is like trying to figure out when (if?) Tom Brady will retire.A.J. BROWN, WR, MISSISSIPPI

The chances of the Raiders making the playoffs took a major hit with Sunday’s 27-24 loss to the Houston Texans Antonio Brown Jersey White , but with the AFC wild-card spots looking wide open, Oakland can still forge a path to playoffs. The long, grueling 48-day road trip has come to an end. That six-week trip will undoubtedly be the toughest test of the regular season, and the lessons they learned away from home will define the rest of the year.As the schedule eases up, the Raiders might be poised to go on a run. No, seriously, look at the upcoming slate.Week 9: Home vs. LionsWeek 10: Home vs. ChargersWeek 11: Home vs. BengalsWeek 12: Away vs. JetsThat four-game stretch of opponents is a combined 7-22-1 right now, and with the Raiders looking particularly emotionally charged after Sunday’s heartbreaker, this team feels like they’re poised to bounce back. Dropping below .500 might be exactly the motivation that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock need to make a splash before Tuesday’s deadline. Every week, Football Outsiders runs 30,000 simulations of the rest of the season. Before this weekend, the Raiders made the AFC playoffs in 49 percent of simulations with a win over the Texans, while making it just 21 percent of the time with a loss. If the Raiders can traverse that schedule and head into Arrowhead stadium at 7-4 when they face the Chiefs in Week 13, those odds will likely have skyrocketed.Although they’re not yet out of reach of Kansas City atop the AFC West standings, it is much more likely that Oakland grabs a wildcard spot. Really the only competition the Raiders face for the two wildcard spots includes Buffalo (5-2) and the entirety of the muddled AFC South. With the Colts (5-2), Texans (5-3), Jaguars (4-4), and Titans (4-4) all sitting above Oakland Bo Jackson Jersey White , the Raiders final home games against Tennessee and Jacksonville in Week 14 and 15 could be among the most important Raider games in years. Possessing tiebreakers over three of the four AFC South teams could be the difference in January. With away games against the uneven Chargers and Broncos rounding out the schedule, the Raiders going 6-3 to finish 10-6 seems possible. Heck, 11-5 might even be within reach if everything breaks right and the defense improves. If Gruden decides to continue selling off pieces of the team to add draft picks and focus on the future, it would be understandable, albeit disappointing. Although he has the safety of being less than two years into a 10-year contract, Raider Nation fans who have only seen one playoff appearance since the 2002 season aren’t ready to kick the can on to 2020. ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The good feeling from his first coaching win in nearly 10 years wore off quickly as Jon Gruden went back to work Monday.Gruden knows there’s plenty of work needed to get the Oakland Raiders to the level he hopes they can reach as even their first victory of the season came with some flaws. The defense allowed seven plays of at least 20 yards, Derek Carr threw two more interceptions and the Raiders needed a thrilling comeback before prevailing 45-42 over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.Next up for the Raiders (1-3) is a road game against the Los Angeles Chargers that already has Gruden concerned.“You start seeing the Chargers, you see Philip Rivers. It’s hard to rejoice in your victories for very long,” he said. “We have a real challenge. (Melvin) Ingram is unbelievable. Derwin James is a good player. (Joey) Bosa they tell me is coming back, so we have work to do.”It’s just a lot more enjoyable to do it after a win for a change. There were plenty of positive developments that the Raiders hope to build on for the future, starting with a defense that had four takeaways, including one returned for a touchdown; two good punt returns from Dwayne Harris that set up scores; and a clutch performance down the stretch from Carr, who bounced back from two early interceptions to throw for 437 yards, four TDs and the game-tying 2-point conversion.“He’s a tough guy. There’s not a lot you don’t like about him,” Gruden said. “He stood in there, made a throw to Jared Cook yesterday. Deep pattern down the left sideline. He got punished on a cross-dog blitz. Throw the interception on a deep ball to Martavis (Bryant) and came back and played his best football. He showed mental, physical toughness. Those are two things you have to have to be a great quarterback. He showcased it yesterday.”Carr had plenty of help on offense despite several drops from his receivers , including what should have been a long TD to Bryant in the first half.Amari Cooper had eight catches for 128 yards and one touchdown, Jared Cook had eight catches for 110 yards and two TDs, Jordy Nelson caught the game-tying 2-point conversion, and Jalen Richard had an 18-yard catch and run on the game-tying drive. But the best performance of all might have come from running back Marshawn Lynch, who rushed for 130 yards in his most productive game since 2014. He forced 11 missed tackles against the Browns, according to Pro Football Focus, and might have had an even bigger day if not for a quick whistle that negated a long run when the officials wrongly ruled Lynch had been tackled.“If that’s not a Hall of Fame back, I don’t know what is,” Gruden said. “Honestly. What he did yesterday, what he’s done since he’s been here is incredible. He wants the ball more and more and more. … This guy does not want to come off the field. He picked up six or seven blitzes yesterday, too, that no one is talking about. But some of the runs, good night! Why would you have a quick whistle with Marshawn Lynch? I don’t understand how you can blow a whistle like they did yesterday, but some of the runs he’s making, some of the finishes and determination he is putting on tape is unbelievable. I don’t see many guys in football running like this.”NOTES: CB Daryl Worley returned to the team after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse and personal-conduct policies. He can resume practice on Wednesday but the team has until later in the week to put him on the active roster. …LG Kelechi Osemele and RT Donald Penn both left the game with injuries and Gruden didn’t have any additional information on their availability this week.

With one game left in a losing season Womens Seantrel Henderson Jersey , the Jaguars are turning back to Blake Bortles at quarterback.Bortles relieved Cody Kessler in last Sunday’s victory over the Dolphins and head coach Doug Marrone announced on Wednesday that he will get the start against the Texans in Week 17.It will be Bortles’ first start since he went 12-of-23 for 127 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in a Week 12 loss to the Bills. He was 5-of-6 for 39 yards and ran for 25 yards after coming off the bench against the Dolphins last week.Marrone mentioned Bortles’ mobility was part of the decision Ka'imi Fairbairn Jersey White , but making the move to play him last week and coming out of the game with a win was a pretty strong sign that he’d be the starter. The bigger question in Jacksonville concerns who will start in Week One next season. Bortles is under contract for two more years, but the prospect of sticking with him is an unappealing one given the way he played this season. There would be $16 million in dead money on an already tight cap and Bortles has $6.5 million in guaranteed money coming his way Womens Zach Cunningham Jersey , but those considerations seem unlikely to stop the Jags from finding someone else to lead the offense. The Texans expect wide receiver Will Fuller back in time for the start of the 2019 season and they’ve made plans to hold onto him in 2020 as well.According to multiple reports, the Texans have exercised their fifth-year option on Fuller’s rookie contract. He’s set to make just over $10.1 million Womens DeAndre Hopkins Jersey , although the contract is guaranteed in case of injury only.Avoiding injury has been an issue for Fuller over the last three seasons and is coming off the most serious of his NFL career. He tore his ACL in late October and General Manager Brian Gaine said last week that he expects Fuller will be full speed by the opening game of the season.Fuller has caught 11 touchdowns in 11 games with Deshaun Watson at quarterback and he’s averaged over 15 yards a catch over the last two seasons. He’s only played 17 games over that span, though Sammie Coates Jersey White , and more consistent appearances in the lineup would be a welcome development in Houston.

EDTShareTweetShareShareDetroit Lions confirm new turf for Ford Field in 2019Tim Fuller-USA TODAY SportsOn Wednesday, the Detroit Lions confirmed an earlier report from Cranes Detroit that the team’s home site, Ford Field, will be getting new turf for the 2019 season. In an official statement, the Lions announced that installation of the new turf will begin on May 1 and last about four weeks. But don’t expect to notice a huge change as a fan. The Lions are sticking with the same company, FieldTurf, that has provided their playing surface since the opening of Ford Field.“We’ve partnered with FieldTurf since the inaugural season at Ford Field because of our confidence in their proven product Matt Prater Jersey ,” said Detroit Lions Team President Rod Wood in an official statement. “With ongoing enhancements in turf technology, we are embracing the opportunity to work with FieldTurf to install their best available playing surface and maintain the highest standards of safety for all players at our stadium.”According to the release, the Lions are actually using the same “FieldTurf Classic HD” turf they have had in years past, but an “upgraded” system. So while the turf promises to be more up-to-date, this isn’t exactly a drastic, noticeable change. Once upon a time, Charlie Weis was the Patriots assistant coach who was supposed to be the next big thing. While that proved true in regards to his wallet if not his resume Sam Martin Jersey , the family is still the family, and the connections run deep.According to Dave Birkett of the , Weis said he talked to Lions coach and former co-worker Matt Patricia about his offensive coordinator job this offseason, but stopped short of calling it an interview.“We talked, but it never got to that point,” Weis said. “There was no interview. Matt and I are too close to go through an interview. If it ever would have happened, it would have been Calvin Johnson Jersey , ‘Hey, you want to come?’ And I would have said yes or no. It wouldn’t have been anything other than that.”Patricia worked with Weis one year in New England (2004), and Weis tried to take Patricia with him to Notre Dame. As it turns out, Weis’ college coaching career wasn’t quite the success many expected, as he was 41-49 in eight seasons at Notre Dame and Kansas. The Lions hired former Seattle coordinator Darrell Bevell to replace Jim Bob Cooter this offseason.Weis is working in radio now, but said he’s had chances at jobs recently, but didn’t find the right situation. He also defended Patricia’s work after a 6-10 season Womens Zach Zenner Jersey , citing the improvements on defense and the injuries which robbed the offense of star power including Kerryon Johnson.“I mean, how was the defense playing at the end of the year?” Weis said. “So let’s start with that, where the defense went from. OK, that was a step in the right direction. Now, the next thing is you’ve got to make those same type of strides with the offense. You lost Kerryon Johnson during the season just when he was rocking and rolling. If you can get to the fact where you don’t want to depend on just throwing it every down and continue to build toughness on the offense and you’ve got both sides of the ball be tough, especially in that division.“What I’m saying to you . . . you’re really not that far away. It’s just, you know how the league is now Kenny Golladay Jersey White , these stays are short-lived so you’ve got to make the most of it as quickly as you can.”That was also a fair description of his stint at Notre Dame, and the contract extension he got in the middle of his first season paid him well enough to be picky about future jobs.

All about beaches / that Taylor could opt to return to Los Angeles

The Bengals have a preferred replacement for Marvin Lewis at head coach Dre Kirkpatrick Jersey , and it’s Rams’ quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor.Upon firing Lewis two Mondays ago, Taylor was the first external candidate the Bengals requested to interview. The interview took place last Friday in Los Angeles and was the fifth interview the team conducted in their search. At just 35 years of age, Taylor was the youngest candidate the Bengals interviewed. 2018 was Taylor’s 11th season in the coaching ranks, after starting as a graduate assistant with Texas A&M in 2008. Taylor stayed there up until he become the Dolphins’ assistant quarterbacks coach in 2012 when the team drafted Ryan Tannehill. He was then promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2013. In 2015 Billy Price Jersey , Taylor took over play-calling duties for the Dolphins in their final five games when they fired offensive coordinator Bill Lazor.Taylor returned to the college stage to be the University of Cincinnati’s offensive coordinator. After a relatively unsuccessful season there, he was hired by new Rams’ coach Sean McVay to be their wide receivers coach in 2017. His role then changed to quarterbacks coach in 2018 after Matt Lafleur left the position to become the Titans’ offensive coordinator. In short, the Bengals are planning to replace a known commodity in Marvin Lewis with a relatively inexperienced offensive-minded coach who spent the last two seasons working with one of the league’s brightest minds. Taylor is about as different as Bengals’ fans could’ve asked for to begin the post-Lewis era, but there’s still a risk that he doesn’t live up to the potential he has as a young leader. Many fans wanted Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to be offered the job Jessie Bates Jersey , but Taylor must’ve nailed the interview, which fits the initial reports. Also, Taylor can’t be officially announced as the team’s head coach until the Rams’ season is over. Considering what happened last year with the Colts and Josh McDaniels, we can’t rule out the possibility that Taylor could opt to return to Los Angeles like McDaniels returned to New England. But for the sake of our sanity Sam Hubbard Jersey , let’s assume that won’t happen. Are the Bengals making the right choice in hiring Taylor? Zac Taylor is expected to add Jim Turner to his first coaching staff, Paul Dehner of the reports.Turner, in his second stint as Texas A&M’s offensive line coach, has a close relationship with Taylor Malik Jefferson Jersey , who is Mike Sherman’s son-in-law. Turner was the Aggies’ offensive line coach in 2008 when Taylor began his coaching career in College Station under Sherman.Taylor and Turner also were together with the Dolphins and briefly at the University of Cincinnati. Turner coached under Kevin Sumlin for two seasons at A&M and then Jimbo Fisher last season. He was the offensive line coach at Miami during the bullying scandal involving offensive linemen Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito. Turner also served a three-week suspension at A&M for offensive powerpoint slides used during a football clinic for women.Turner replaces Frank Pollack, who was fired after one year with the Bengals.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (15-4)New faces: WR Cordarelle Patterson , RB Jeremy Hill, RB Sony Michel, QB Danny Etling, DE Adrian Clayborn, OT Trent Brown, CB Jason McCourty, DT Danny Shelton.Key losses: Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, WR Danny Amendola, WR Brandin Cooks, CB Malcolm Butler, CB Johnson Bademosi, RB Dion Lewis, OT Nate Solder Womens Cameron Wake Jersey , OT Cam Fleming.Strengths: Tom Brady and Bill Belichick return as one of most successful quarterback-coach tandems in NFL history, and easily best of Super Bowl era. Brady is coming off MVP season in which he threw for 32 touchdowns vs. eight interceptions and led league with 4,577 yards passing. He’ll have Rob Gronkowski back for as long as oft-injured tight end can remain healthy.Weaknesses: WR Julian Edelman (98 receptions in 2016, injured in ’17) will miss first four games serving suspension after testing positive for performance-enhancing substance. Without him, team is thin at wideout, with Chris Hogan (34 catches last year), Phillip Dorsett (12) and newcomer Cordarelle Patterson (31 with Oakland). Malcolm Mitchell, Jordan Matthews, Kenny Britt and Eric Decker were all brought in but didn’t work out.Fantasy Players To Watch: Brady has shown no sign of drop-off, even at 41, but loss of offensive weapons like Amendola and Cooks and 25 percent of season from Edelman could hurt value. Don’t let Edelman fall too far down draft boards just because of four-game suspension; Hogan could also be in for increased targets as de facto No. 1 wideout. Although Michel is first-round draft pick with potential, his numbers might suffer because of Belichick’s tendency to use running backs by committee.Vegas Says: Super Bowl 6-1. Over/under wins 11.5.Expectations: There is rarely any regular-season suspense with Patriots, who have won 10 games or more for 15 straight years Jason Taylor Jersey , winning division in all but one of them, when Brady was injured in 2008 (and they still went 11-5). Some intrigue surrounds Brady and Belichick, who have sparred over reigning MVP’s fitness guru (who also worked with suspended Edelman), and backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who was abruptly traded to San Francisco last year at bargain price of second-round pick. New defensive play caller Brian Flores will also be adjustment. To return to Super Bowl for ninth time, they will have to all figure out way to work together. The Splash Zone 8/22/18: Howard Out To Prove He’s A Lockdown Corner The Miami Dolphins have an up-and-coming star in Xavien Howard. Rams safety Eric Weddle has been through plenty of seasons that ended without a playoff berth Womens Austin Blythe Jersey , but this one is hitting him a bit more than others.Weddle said it is always painful to miss the playoffs, but he finds himself more “sentimental” this year because he knows this might be it for his career. Weddle turns 35 in January and the Rams have younger safety options in John Johnson and Taylor Rapp, so he’s prepared for anything as he heads into the offseason.“I know how teams go, and organizations Jared Goff Jersey , and to go in that direction like that makes sense to not keep the old guy around,” Weddle said, via the Los Angeles Times. “Like that’s the reality. I know how those things work, so I’m just enjoying this week and whatever the decision — whether it’s me or them — it’s all good.”Weddle said he’s ready for the next step in life if this is the end of his playing career , but it seems it will be some time before he makes a call in either direction.Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks: Final injury report has Mark Barron likely making his return The Los Angeles Rams head into week five healthier than they were a week prior with ILB Mark Barron likely returning and KR/PR JoJo Natson ready to go:2018 LA Rams Week 5 injury reportNamePOSInjuryWed.
